Ugobe Announces Release Date for Pleo!
I just got an email from Khristine Valdez, Ugobe’s PR person, containing some juicy tidbits relating to Pleo and his release date.
According to Valdez, Ugobe will begin taking preorders for Pleo on December 24th, and will continue to do so until Pleo is released on the world in early March. “Timing for product release has slipped a bit as we work to perfect Pleo”, says Valdez.
Online pre-orders will begin on December 24th and in early March, Pleo will start to arrive in the homes of consumers who placed online pre-orders. At the same time in early March, Pleo will make his debut on store shelves at select specialty retailers in limited locations.
Stay tuned for lots of great Pleo news coming out of this year’s CES, as Pleo will be featured in the CES Innovations Pod area.
In addition, Ugobe plans to take Pleo on tour in November.
PleoBot.com will be sure to keep you updated on locations and times.

[…] Apparently Toys R Us didn’t get the news about Pleo not getting released till March. Pleo apparently is available for “pre order” (pre preorder?) on Toys R Us’ website, with a release date of 09/15/2006. Can someone clue them in? […]

This is a big disappointment, but not surprising given some of the Pleo troubles that have been documented (including changing numbers of sensors, etc.)

Changing number of sensors? That’s a good find Thorn, I hadn’t noticed that. What do you mean specifically?

In the various stories on Pleo, the number of sensors and motors kept getting reduced. I’m assuming for cost reasons…

It will be more sensors and motors, to get a perfect toy. It wouldn’t be the right way to reduce it …
