Pleo recently visited the Scifi Tech blog headquarters and showed off his stuff (and here’s part two of the article). Here’s an interesting excerpt from the post:
Ugobe hopes to spark a whole Pleo community by allowing users to essentially “hack” the robot — possibly to do things like take pictures with the camera in the nose (out of the box, it’s just used for guidance) or make him more combative.
We also learn that Pleo runs for about 2hrs on his rechargeable battery, and takes about 4 hrs to charge. The battery will also NOT be replaceable.
Pleo’s reaction time, though (how long it took to respond to interactions), was near-instantaneous. Since the idea with Pleo is to give you something close to an actual pet, as opposed to a toy, that’s essential.
There’s also some excellent video of Pleo in action on this page and this page. Apparently Pleo can do dancing to his own phat hiphop beats.
